About the Workshop

The IGH Next Generation Sequencing for Bacterial Detection and Characterisation Workshop 2025 is designed to equip African scientists with advanced genomics knowledge for bacterial identification and characterisation.

This intensive 10-day program combines theoretical foundations with hands-on experience using Illumina sequencing platforms.

Led by the Institute of Genomics & Global Health (IGH), which has successfully trained over 3,000 researchers, scientists, and students across 53 out of 54 countries in Africa, the workshop emphasises whole genome sequencing (WGS) of bacteria from human, animal, water, and environmental samples.

The training has direct applications in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance, outbreak response, and public health research.
